How good is Parsons School of Design? Which area does the school excel? e.g. interior design, fashion, graphic
I'm a Hong Kong student and planning to come to the states for Uni. I would really want to do either advertising design or marketing, or interior design sort of majors. Do you have any recommendations apart from Parsons? Im pretty sure I will have enough marks from my IB grade, so academics requirement is not that of a constraint to me. Please tell me what do you think ! I really appreciate that

parsons is one of the top design schools in the country. you will need letters of recommendation and a portfolio to get in. other top schools are rhode island school of design and carnagie mellon. these design schools are more for creative design -- like art schools. for advertising and marketing you can go to any university.

I am a 23-year-old closeted gay man. Should I study in Australia or stay in Hong Kong?
I am a 23-year-old closeted gay man. I am orginally from Hong Kong. I have been an accounting student in an Australian university for 2 years. Looking back these 2 years, I have been struggling with my own sexuality and my accounting course. It has been a torture for me. I've found I am not an accounting material. Now, my university ask me to discontinue my course and I go back to Hong Kong. I wanna do a new degree course majoring in Italian and Spanish in Australia.(I've self-studied both language for 3 years and really enjoy the experience. Also I've collected Italian and Spanish music for 2 years.Love it) My parents say they will support me whether I do it in Australia or HK.However, I've got a feeling that they prefer me to do it in HK.But they don't mind if I do it in Australia. However, my parents are homophobic. After being in denial for 2 year, I've come out to all my Australian friends who are all gay-friendly. But not my parents yet since I'm afraid they'll cut off my sponsor I compared degree courses in Australia and Hong Kong, I prefer the Australian one. I have a lot more friends in Australia. I have no friends here in Hong Kong , except living with homophobic mum and dad. In order to have a good social life for a gay man, should I stay in HK or go to Australia ?

Go to Australia! Guys there'll rip the door off your closet and the clothes off your body within 24 hrs. You'll be a much happier gay man when you are out!
2 :
It sounds that you are really happy in Australia so stay there. If you are openly gay to your friends do your parents really need to be told? There is no rush to tell them.

The decision on where to stud really depends on you. You should go where you really want to go, not because others are forcing you to do so. Just be yourself and you will discover a lot more. Good luck.

Sounds like you are unhappy in Hong Kong, but you will have a lot more fun in Australia. Go to Australia!

You sound like you are most comfortable in australia, which is why you should probably go there. It seems you'd have a better life style for yourself, so if I were you, I'd choose Australia. But you have to remember; you're going to have to open up to your parents eventually. They're going to wonder why you're never bringing a woman home. Good luck. (:

I am a Hong Kong guy who has studied in Australia for 7 years. Have my political views/ values changed ?
Now I am 23. I am now an university student Recently I went back to Hong Kong for holiday. My parents says " Why are you watching more Australian / American/ UK TV programmes than before ? I think you are weird. " They aso say "Democrazy is not the answer. Look at America. Poverty still exists in USA even though American enjoy democracy. This shows democrazy is not the answer " They say " Freedom of Speech is not important in any countries . If people have food to eat , that's enough. They don't need to fight for freedom of speech even though they don'r have. Therefore we support the governemnt to have tighter control on newspapers and internet and expression of individual's idea " Then I said I strongly opposed to it. Then my parents scolded me.They said I was crazy for seeking freedom of speech. HOW DO YOU THINK OF MY PARENTS ? IS IT NORMAL FOR ME TO LOVE DEMOCRACY AFTER STUDYING IN AUSTRALIA FOR 7 YEARS?

I think democracy is great. When you open the newspaper, you get to read the news instead of what the government wants you to read. Why shouldn't people be able to speak their mind? I think you are normal, and your parents are also normal, because they have never known another way of life.

anyone who has lived in a TRULY free nation, cannot explain that to those who don't I can't even get Dutch people to believe in america they pack your groceries for YOU! So I bet free speech is a harder sell! you are not wrong but they can't get it. I had in-laws here that thought America was awful! they had never BEEN THERE! After ONE trip they all want to come with us when leave!

youre parents obviously dont know any different. you should believe what you believe though

Democracy and freedom lead to prosperity. It's not abnormal for you to love democracy. You are in Australia and it's good that you adapt in a society where you live, then it opens doors of opportunities for you.

Democracy means the government works for the people but its been corrupted to where the people work for the government. Its not supposed to be that way. VOTE OBAMA! Your parents have some things right. Poverty still exists due to a lack of balance here in the U.S. every thing is way out of whack. It does get better with different cycles politically. I think the freedom to express ones ideas is important but can also be damaging. Take the KKK for example. Have every right to voice their opinion, but also continues to cause problems between people. I do not think every black man thinks a white man is racist, but because of the few actions it helps create that misconception. Same with religion.... I do not believe in the bible and all the time i am told how wrong I am.

I'm 14 years old and I want a summer job or internship in Hong Kong?
Hey, i'm 14. I would love teach little kids like kindergarten kids and primary students English, French or Math. I can teach every week, where can I go? Any suggested education centres perhaps that would hire teens as cheap labour or something? Help please! I'm mainly doing this for a little experience and I love little kids :) Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

You are only 14, if people hire you, that means they are hiring a child. They will have to be extremely careful to make sure that everything they do is nothing against the law. In that case, I think they'll just get a grown-up to do the job to save them all the trouble. But if you are interested in getting the experience, maybe you can go to your teachers and offer to help the kindergarten/primary kids, they may need some help from students like you, and you'll have a chance to get along with little kids with the help of your teachers.

It's better if you do part time here in here if you're planning to do Uni here. We have plenty of English speakers. More so now that a lot of people send their kids overseas for school and have English speaking domestic helpers. Hong Kong has one of the highest math scores in the world compared to other countries and we teach middle school students what some country like US considered university level math so... I think your best bet is to find a job to tutor French.
