Yahoo Hong Kong has a similiar area as answer.yahoo.com. I think it is called Yahoo knowledge. You should post your question there instead. (As you are a student from mainland China. I will assume you don't have any trouble in reading Chinese.) https://www.ab.ust.hk/sao/iss/contact.htm is the contact information page for HKUST. You may want to send them an email to find the most correct answer to your question.

I dont know how good Hong Kong University is. Hong Kong is a "country" with a lot of businesses, so I think Hong Kong is a great place to further business education. I don't know if it is recognized worldwide - maybe if you plan on working in Asia.

Form 3 in Hong Kong (14 y.o.) study calculus & diff. equations. Grade 9 in USA study linear equations. Why?
Students in USA are at least four full years behind. Linear equations are studied in Hong Kong when you're in Primary 5 (10 year old). USA students don't see Calculus until first year of college, and differential equations until the second year, when they are already 19 or 20!

And yet Americans maintain the highest standard of living while that 14 year old kid in Hong Kong goes home every night and lives in dirt and dogshit with the rest of his family. By the way, linear equations arent taught as a curriculum standard in Hong Kong to 10 year olds, my sister teaches there. Maybe you should make sure someone cant call you on your bs next time before you post a ridiculous lie.

I took it in high school....1st yr:geometry,2nd yr:Algebra 2.....3rd yr:Triginometry and analytical geometry....4th yr:AP Calculus. So I don't know where you get your info.....you're wrong.

well studying at high levels are great but imagination is more important than knowledge. Who said that by the way?
5 :
Not true. We don't force our children to go to school 10 hrs a day and all summer long. We don't force our children to study another 6 hours after they put in 10 hrs. My 14 year old granddaughter goes to A&M. She takes engineering. Why are you so far behind her in your studies?
6 :
I am concerned for my sons education here in the US.

I studied calculus in high school, and I think it may have been offered in Jr High (not sure).

Pleasee Help. about International Student?

Pleasee Help. about International Student?
Hello, I am enrolling in a college in UK for University Foundation Programme. I am going there from Hong Kong by student visa. My parents can fund my studies and everything while I'm there. Please tell me if I still need a sponser? I have to apply to the british consulate and I have no idea if I need to present them my sponser and so on. The question is: Do I still need a sponser even though I can fund my studies , accomodation and so on.... I already have the documents from the college, the acceptance letter, invoice and so on. I am just confused about the sponsership.
Studying Abroad - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No, you should not need a sponsor, sponsor is only if you need financial need from others and also apply to foreign exchange student.
2 :
For a student visa, you need documents showing you have been accepted by a school/university, and proof of sufficient funds to cover all of your school expenses, living expenses and transportation home. Your parents are providing for these expenses, so you should be fine. Sponsors are for immigration. Since student visas are not an immigration-class visa, only temporary, you do not need a sponsor.
3 :
A sponsor is anyone who is providing financial support. Your parents are your sponsor, simply bring their bank statements which show that they have the funds available to pay for your tuition and living expensive, along with an affidavit of support, which is just a signed letter by them, stating that this money is available to you.

If you are paying your own way, study anywhere you like. if your parents are paying the bill, try going to a local community college. In case you havent heard, the global economy is down. And your parents may need all their extra cash.
2 :
Both are very expensive cities to live in so I hope you have taken that into consideration. Of the two though, I would recommend Hong Kong. I'll admit, I have a personal bias. Hong Kong is seriously one of my favorite cities in the world. I never lived there though, but I have visited four times over the past couple years. a) The food is amazing. If you have never had it, go to your nearest dim sum restaurant tonight. However good it is, the dim sum in Hong Kong will definitely be better and cheaper. b) There is a strong expat community. A lot of business professionals have made Hong Kong home. It is easy to make friends and share the experience of living abroad together. c) I don't know what university you are looking into, but many of the universities in Hong Kong are rated as some of the best in Asia. These schools also have strong International business programs if that is something that interests you. d) The nightlife is awesome, but expensive. Expect to pay $8+ a drink. That's about all I can share. Good luck and if you are looking for some study abroad programs in Hong Kong, check out this site: www.go-study-abroad.com Cheers, Andrew

How different is the lifestyle in Hong Kong compared to Guangzhou?

How different is the lifestyle in Hong Kong compared to Guangzhou?
Hi there, I'm an American Chinese, born in California and been living here all my life. I'm 22, and just graduated from college. I wanted to study abroad in China but never had an opportune time when I was in school. I am now seriously considering teaching English in China so that I can experience the place that a part of my family grew up in, and to become more worldly. At the same time, I'm seeking adventure and self discovery, not to mention a way to pay off my student loans. So I was wondering for those of you who have been to Hong Kong and Guangzhou, what kind of feel do these cities have? Are there many expatriates in both places? How is the nightlife in each? Where can I improve my cantonese speaking abilities best at? Is it much more affordable for a single apartment in Guangzhou? Any information that you can provide about living in these two cities would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hong Kong is splendid, but frighteningly expensive. You'll have a great time in Hong Kong and leave without a penney to your name. If you teach in Guangzhou then you may be paid less, but can save lots more.
2 :
HK is 5 times cooler... because richer...
3 :
I live in Guangzhou now. I also am teaching English If you want more info contact me through my e-mail on yahoo Q and A. I will be more than happy to give you the info I know. Just so you know... Hong Kong and Guangzhou are completely different.
4 :
Hong Kong and Guangzhou are poles apart... Hong Kong is way more costly... also less opportunities for English teachers... coz its costly will not suit your purpose even if you get a job... coz you want to save money... to repay your loan...

Which University, UNT or Hong Kong?

Which University, UNT or Hong Kong?
I'm currently trying to deceide which of these universities I want to go to. I'm a British student hoping to study a year abroad and these are my options, as well as possibly the national university of Singapore which I recon is pretty similar to Hong Kong. I think I would have a better time at UNT i.e. more fun but would I learn much? and I'm pretty sure it would'nt look very good on my CV. Hong Kong on the other hand is ranked #24 university in the world and so would look fantastic, but I'm not sure it would be as much fun, although I don't actually know much about it. Any help?

Could be a good idea to go in Hong Kong to study or work as dentist? (i try again...)?

Could be a good idea to go in Hong Kong to study or work as dentist? (i try again...)?
Hi everyone, I'm italian and in 3 years I will finish the dentistry university in italy. While i'm studyng i'm trying to plan a useful student excange with a foreign country. My english is bad, so here in Italy i'm having lessons to take a certification like trinity or cambridge, then next year i want to go to London for a few months to improve it. but i really like orient and i hope to go working there. I've been in Shanghai, Pechino, Hong Kong and Seul and i like it but i'm trying to find the place with the most advanced technologies in dentistry. So, can someone tell me something about dentistry in Hong Kong? informations about the level of the university, the requirements to study there (if my qualification in dentistry is valid there), the chance to find job and if dentist in Hong Kong is a good job or not. I've already asked it about japan but everyone told me that i should learn a fluent japanese an this one may be a problem, so to solve the problem of the language i've thought about hong kong. i know that the dental university of hong kong is in the top 40 of the world, and there, once i'll know a good english, shouldn't be any problem to get a job (or maybe the same problems of the other countries)...or not? p.s. for me it's a serious decision, i have to plan the request, the documentation, the money, explain to my professors a concrete and clear idea, so please ( like the guys who answered my previous question, i thanks them) don't tell me misunderstanding things. i know that i've to take official information at university or to the ministry but before i have to decide where to go, asking to who has already been there or know something sure.. Thank you

1 :
As dentists and doctors, you really need to know the local language. It is because even though many people could speak English everywhere, almost no average citizen would know enough medical terms in English to communicate their symptoms or treatment thoroughly and comfortably unless it's their native language, no one wants any misunderstanding when it comes to curing a sickness. When you're sick how would you like to see a doctor who speak no Italian and only some broken English. Unless you're satisfied to be teaching and doing research only.
2 :
English is a secondary language in Hong Kong. Over 99% of Hong Kong residents speak Cantonese (regional dialect of southern China) as their first language. If you want to work in Hong Kong, then you absolutely must be fluent in Cantonese. You must also be able to read and write Mandarin (national standard language of China) since all documents will be in that language.

Shopping in Hong Kong?

Shopping in Hong Kong?
Hi everyone, I am going on a field trip to Hong Kong with my class. I went to mainland in '08 - Beijing, Shanghai, and Suzhou. Is the shopping in Hong Kong similar to mainland as far as the street markets. Pearls and fake purses were a steal, and I am hoping to get some more good deals. Are goods in HK more expensive? I should add that shopping is not my main interest for going there. I am an accounting student, so most of the trip will be visiting businesses operating in HK and sightseeing/experiencing the culture. :) Are there large pearl markets like on the mainland? Where I can negotiate prices?

i was born there, amazing place. cheap clothes but i wouldnt live there for long, the buildings will ruin your eye sight, because there so close. but yeah, id say its a good place to buy stuff cheap but not cheaper then the mainland i guess, depending on where you bought the stuff oh! you gotta try the McDonalds xD i remember it being so much nicer there :3
2 :
its great most stuff are pretty cheap aswell =]
3 :
just like china ther eare plenty of fake stuff. if you really want nice stuff. you should go to causeway bay. they have some of the cutest stuff there.
4 :
Fake purse are "a steal". Possession of counterfeit merchandise is illegal. You may be arrested by Hong Kong Police, Hong Kong Customs, or the Customs authorities of your home country. Don't be a crooked monkey. Buy legitimate products.
5 :
hk is much more commercial than china. most of the "markets" have been setup for tourists. they have cracked down alot on fake stuff so it's not as easy to find as in china. most people go to hk for brand name shopping. since there is no import duty it is cheaper than most places in the world.
6 :
Fake items are few in sight but are still available, you might see more of those unbranded or less known brands on street markets. Branded / Signature items cost less than in other countries and way cheaper if on sale. October has to be the sale-month of HK i think.

But i am not a clever student, i am studying gcse atm and i think/know i am going to fail, what i want to know is, is there any way to get into the police without gcse's? i mean like could i get in by just common sense, general knowledge and not by academically? i am dumb academically but quite clever in terms of thinking thing in general if you know what i mean and i will work hard if i like it/interested. I have always wanted to join police or be a pilot. I am also death/half death in one ear. Will that affect my chance? thanks

Following is the Hong Kong Police Application Requirement link. It states under Police Constable that "without the minimum required Chinese language proficiency standard may also apply for the post." But your biggest obstacle for now is you must have lived in Hong Kong for 7 years which makes perfect sense. You don't want to be asking a British policeman who knows nothing about what's going on locally. http://www.police.gov.hk/ppp_en/15_recruit/er.html

Do American people like Hong Kong people or chinese people?

Do American people like Hong Kong people or chinese people?
I am a college student in Texas, the U.S.. I have many American friends, but sometimes I feel like they don't like chinese people in their heart.Like, last time when I was hanging out with some of my american friends and one japanese friend, my american friends only ask that japanese guy questions. It seems like they were only interested in Japan. They even said "Japan is awesome, wonderful....."even those american guys have never been to Japan before. Actually, Hong Kong is good. Because Hong Kong is an international city. We have everything there. People here are just ignorant, and always assume Hong Kong is a third-world country. I don't like that. I am like "hey!go to Wikipedia, go search Hong Kong!"I am not here blaming americans, I am just disappointed sometimes.By the way, Hong Kong is not the same as China.

2 :
It scares me that you are at a college and the college kids your are speaking to are not always aware that Hong Kong is not China and not a 3rd world country.... (that is 3rd-4th grade geography and social science) But to answer your quetion, I think you cannot generalize a prejudice. Prejudice is an individual decision, not a society decision.
3 :
Are you sure those guys liked Japan more than Hong Kong? Maybe they'd visited Japan before, but not Hong Kong and therefore couldn't comment on it. I have some Chinese friends. I don't think all Americans are ignorant like your question suggests.
4 :
I think Americans in general do like Chinese people but we hear a lot more about Japanese technological advances than any other place in the world. Many Americans are also anime lovers and play video games that the Japanese make, drive their cars etc. Many military people have gone to Japan and so have their families and friends when they go there to visit them. Japan is actually becoming one of the top destinations on people's travel list. I've been to Japan too and they were very technologically advanced so I was impressed. I also went off the coast to Okinawa and that was much different than places like Tokyo. It was like a beach town with a few casinos, parks, and lots of people on motorcycles. I've only been in China very briefly though. I don't think your friends like you less than the Japanese guy, I think they're just more into Japanese culture or entertainment more because they don't know all that China has to offer. Why not try to enlighten them.
5 :
Texas is generally racist anyways. I think it's just the area. Not that many states are racist. Tomi
6 :
it might be your area, but in general Japan is more popular with US. students because of the technology, cars, and now the animation, horror movies which are being culturally exchanged. I mean half of us at that age were raised on Japanese cartoons, like speed racer, samurai pizza cats. thinking hong kong is a 3rd world country is ridiculous.
7 :
frankly, i don't like chinese people and most of my friends feel uncomfortable with them as well. it's mainly because of your mannerism: the way you think and behave. it could be small things you do. i live in a city where there are many chinese. i hate the fact they come here and make small chinese communities everywhere, speaking chinese at all time and never learning english. they chew really loudly with their mouths opened while eating. they talk like they are shouting at each other and scream in public like in a library. they come to church to take pictures with flash...how disrespectful. these are just examples i've encountered. like you mentioned "Actually, Hong Kong is good. Because Hong Kong is an international city. We have everything there. People here are just ignorant" who are you to say that? does being an international city mean good? does having everything mean it's perfect? what is everything anyway? and you are saying we are ignorant just because we don't see things from your perspectives. is there any duty that forces us to know about hong kong? do you know about all the countries on the earth? what's wrong with third world countries? i have many friends from such countries and they are great. you are being nationalistic or even ethnocentric. this is what i'm talking about. i don't like the way you think. i like japanese people because they have manners and respect other cultures, trying to understand the ways other people think. one more thing, i do not care if people from hong kong are the same as those of china or not. I don't happen to know the differences between them. we don't have to be forced to find differences in them. it's our choice, by no means i wanted to offend you but what i've written is my very honest thoughts. my apologies if you feel that way.
8 :
You will get both Yes and No for the question. There are both racist and non-racist people in America. HK is actually a famous city on earth. People in Texas may not know about it but most people from other similar cities like New York, London, Toronto, Tokyo and Sydney know about it, as HK is an international commerical city. Most British, Canadian and Australian know HK, because there are many connection between them and HK. HK people do take pride in the city's global importance and fame.
9 :
I love Hong Kong. I don't necessarily like the people there because not all people there are nice. But I've lived there for 5 years and i think it is just wonderful because they have their own language, culture and other things. That's right! They have everything there. But I've lived in China (Shanghai), if you seriously don't count Hong Kong as China, for five years (almost six years) and I think it's wonderful. I've also been to Li Jiang, Dun Huang, Beijing and many other places in China for holidays and I think they are wonderful too. China is very cultural and full of nice things that I think Americans should appreciate! :) Hope this helps you asker! :)

Travel to Hong Kong Alone ?

Travel to Hong Kong Alone ?
Ok so I just received a position as a travel lead to Hong Kong China. Once I drop off my students I will be free to explore Hong Kong for 9 days. I will be a lone female traveler and was wondering what advice you had for me…what should I do? Where should I stay? Does anyone know of a travel group I can join/participate in while I am there?
China - 3 Answers

There are lots of different options. But firstly, if you have any concerns about being a single female traveler on Hong Kong you can pretty much through those away!! Local Hong Kongers will tell "oh, it can be dangerous here", but that is because they have no idea what things can be like elsewhere, even in the run down areas of Hong Kong, I felt safe. Its not that bad things can't happen them, I'm sure they could, but you will feel perfectly safe. Just stick to general common sense. There is apparently frequent pickpocketing in the very crowded areas (ie: Mong Kok), this has never happened to me, but just be aware and keep your wallet in a safe place (ie:right down the bottom of your bag where people can't easily reach). Accomodation, I will let others recommed you that. That will probably be the most expensive part for you, I was lucky enough to be there as a student and received student accomodation. As a result, I ahev no experience in that area. There are SOOOOOOOOOOOO many things to do in Hong Kong, even Hong Kongers haven't done them all!! Things you HAVE to do (according to me) are: Catch the tram to the peak, ride the escalotor (central HK), visit Causway Bay if you like shopping, ride the tram around Central. Eat Dim Sum (a must!!), 10 000 Buddahs Monastry in the NT, Po Lin Monastry/The Big Buddha/Wisdom Path on Lantau Island, visit Mong Kok and have dinner at Temple Street night markets and really try to visit Cheung Chau Island! I'm sure there are travel groups you can join, and it might make it more fun to experience it with other people, especially when eating. I would recommend maybe doing a few tours, but you can really do most of HK on your own, and it gives you a lot more freedom. One other thing, get an Octopus card (the local transport card) from one of the booths at the train station. It will make travelling on anything in HK a lot quicker and easier. You can get any money you have left on the card refunded to you before you leave. There is plenty more to do there, I am just tired and can't list it all. Shout yourself a decent travel guide, one that gives good directions, and enjoy!!
2 :
I had a wonderful trip in Hongkong last month under the help of the China Sinoway travel, you can email to Lisa, she is a very good tour advisor, maybe she can help you. you can get all the tourist information from their website, such as flights, hotels... http://www.sinowaytravel.com/tours/HongKong-city-tours.148.aspx
3 :
They don't even provide a hotel? Hong Kong is one of the 5 most expensive cities in the world (more expensive than New York), so your costs could add up really quick if you're not careful. I have been there alone, and I felt quite safe. There is a lot to do in Hong Kong, but honestly I'm not sure how I'd fill 9 whole days. Go to The Peak, see the giant Buddha on Lantau island. See the laser light show over the harbor, take a day trip to Macau (no visa needed (at least for Americans), there are 1 hour ferry rides that leave all the time), go to the world's longest escalator. I think the museums have free admission Wednesdays.

Hong Kong has endless photographic opportunities. From the old to the new. Visit some of the many markets and photographic the people and stalls You also have great opportunities to do night photography either from atop the peak or from Kowloon side looking over to the light show or along Nathan Road etc etc.

How is it to study abroad in Hong Kong?

How is it to study abroad in Hong Kong?
I'm 15-year old Filipino student as of now (2008), and my dream is to be in Hong Kong someday. My father is Chinese and my mother is a Filipina, and I grew up here in Philippines. My father had just asked me if do I like to continue my studies in Hong Kong? because he sees better future for me in Hong Kong. He would make me study there if I can stay longer by myself. I'm matured and diligent student. Now, my dream is on my hands. I have the opportunity this time and I really wanted to grab it. The question is: CAN I? Even me, I can't answer. I'm afraid of being homesick and alone. What do you think are the obstacles that I may encounter. What should I do when I'm there already. How if you were I, what will you do? Can you please state your opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

I loved living in Hongkers! Very dynamic, very competitive, constantly changing. One of the world's great cities. UHK is quite well regarded and tough to get into. You will have to apply and be accepted when you are old enough and are completing high school. Then, if you are accepted, you can apply for a student visa. As for your chances of remaining in HK after college, it is rather dicey, and becoming more so. And as for your "nervous nellies," well, you are only 15. By the time you finish high school and turn 18, you will outgrow some of that simply by being older and more experienced. But going to another country is always very demanding and difficult. The more mature and sophisticated you are, the easier that will be, even though nothing at all can ever prepare you for all of the surprises and adjustments that come with going to an unfamiliar place.
2 :
Education in HK is highly competitive. Local students have to take various open exams and the schools would admit them based on their results. Schools (secondary or tertiary) don't casually accept transfer students. So you must have exceptional records in order to apply. Then you would apply for visa. Also, where would you live? There aren't many boarding secondary schools in HK but universities have dormitories. Being separate from family at young age could be possible but definitely not easy.

Going someplace new is ALWAYS scary... I first went from the US to Europe when I was 15 and I will admit that though I came to LOVE Europe, it was a MAJOR culture shock at first... Going somewhere new, even if it is your heritage, is a MIND ALTERING EXPERIENCE. It is a spectacular thing to be exposed to cultures that are different from your own... Even if the differences are slight... Different mind sets... Different food tastes... Different music... It all effects the way you think and really expands the boundaries of your mindset to include things you may never have even thought of if you had remained in your home area. Going overseas was THE BEST THING I ever did and I am SO HAPPY I did it when I was 15-21... when my personality was still forming... Being sequestered in your home area is a VERY limiting thing... Seeing ONLY one way of living day in and day out really closes your mind to the endless possibilities that is the human experience. Will it be scary as hell? TOTALLY... But that is half the fun... 15 is young to go to a place like Hong Kong… But if you have family there or can arrange a family to stay with so that someone is looking out for you then GO FOR IT! You never know if the opportunity will present itself again and if you don’t take this one now, you may regretted it for the rest of your life… NEVER hesitate to expand your horizons… Come visit us in Chicago, IL USA… Go see the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam… The Luvre in France! The beaches of Africa! Go to as many places as you possibly can because only then will you be able to see what the world is REALLY about!!

Im pretty sure you will get a higher salary in HK than in the Philippines if you decide to settle in HK after your study. But it's a matter of preference. There are always pros and cons. Like you earn more but you may have to separate with your family and old friends, being in an environment where people speak Cantonese not Tagalog. Of course you CAN if you want to. =] Obstacles: (Ranked) #1) Do you speak Cantonese? (ok this may not rank number one :p cos if u speak Eng you may still survive. In my class there's a girl from paki or india who doesn't speak a word in Cantonese, still she managed to get thru it) #2) Are you intelligent/diligent? (you need good grade to get into university in HK) #3) Are you amiable? (making new friends help you adapt a whole lot better!) #4) Are you financially supported? (Non-HK residents pay more cos it's kind of welfare thing for the locals, and also accommodation and things are more expensive than in the Philippines) #5) Are you mentally prepared for all the challenges you might have to face? (Not just mentally though, you NEED an actual, practicable, realistic PLAN before you go) Once again, it's a matter of your own preference. Everything's possible. Good luck =]

Yes, you'll have to take the SAT or the ACT (a different test that most schools also accept) in addition to the TOEFL.
2 :
You will need to take the TOEFL but if you take SAT they can take it in consideration too.
3 :
The University of North Texas can help! We offer almost 100 Undergraudate and more than 150 Graduate programs in a variety of fields. The application process for International students is pretty straightfoward. We require an application and application fee, proof of English proficiency (generally TOEFL), and official academic credentials in order to make an admissions decision. If you get admitted, we will require financial documents to issue the I-20, which is what you need to get your Visa to study in the USA. You can get more details about applying to UNT on our website: http://www.international.unt.edu/admissions/requirements/requirements.html Best wishes! The Anne Black - YWCA, Hong Kong?

The Anne Black - YWCA, Hong Kong?
It's a cheap hotel, located in on Man Fuk Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Just want to know if it's actually a good enough hotel for a student, who is going to stay there for only 4-5 days? Is the district safe? If not, are there any other cheap hotels?

All of Hong Kong is extremely safe. There are no guns in Hong Kong, very little violent crime, and virtually no illegal drugs. The overall crime rate in Hong Kong, as in many east Asian cities, is 90% lower than in American cities. Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, Shanghai, and Hong Kong are all the same -- you can walk down any of their streets at midnight and no one will bother you. Here are reviews of the Anne Black Hotel from people who actually stayed there. (see weblink)
2 :
Kowloon is pretty crowded but nonetheless safe and plenty of places to go and visit. I usually stay at hostels in Kowloon and "most" of the times I've been there, I didn't have much problems. Contrary to BSherman's post, there will be people bothering you and offering you such things as KTV, and something else that sounds quite strange to me. Just politely decline to be safe, if you show slightest interest in their offers, they will not leave you alone. In my opinion, of all the cities, Singapore is the cleanest and safest, they have public caning and death penalty of hanging by the neck. Rules there are far stricter than anywhere I've been. Girls are able to freely walk the streets outside during midnight and not fear anything.

Hong Kong and China are different!!!?

Hong Kong and China are different!!!?
I am a college student going to college in America. Whenever I say I am from Hong Kong, people just say sth like "oh!!China!!", "I have been to Beijing b4!!", "why don't u just say u r from china!?". OK! I am sick of that crap! Although HK is a part of china, but it has its own systems such as gov, edu, transportation, laws, rules, currency, official language.....We have different cultures, also we speak different dialects and use different kind of chinese words. Why some people just gain up on us HK people and say we r from "China". wtf!!! Can I tell those people that they r from Africa????? If they don't understand, they can just go to wikipedia, they don't need to argue with us. I know some people from mainland China may be pissed off while reading this. But hey!!admit that Hong Kong is different from China, u guys still need to use passport to come to HK.. Yep!we admit that we r chinese, but not from China, period.

You are from China though so you can't say you aren't from China.. It's like someone from Hawaii saying that aren't from America it just doesn't work.. I understand what you are saying though.
2 :
So you're upset because people mistaken you as a Mainland Chinese? Or you upset because people think Hong Kong is China? Hong Kong IS part of China, so you can't blame them for thinking Hong Kong is China. Hawaii and New York are completely different, too. People eat different food, have different history and cultural background, etc. But you don't see a Pacific Islander in Hawaii getting all upset when people say "oh USA? I've been to New York before!" So, I am guessing you're upset because people think all Chinese are from China and you don't want people to think that you're from China? What's wrong with being from China? You ashamed of China? Let me guess, you have British passport (a BNO) and because of that you think you're better than other Chinese from China?
3 :
You're right...one is a City, and the other is a Country...and yes, I know that that is a snide remark. It was supposed to be. 1) This kind of bile is best vented elsewhere...maybe in a personal blog? 2) Your question...such as it is...is in Violation of Community Standards...namely, it isn't a question. I understand the frustration..and sympathise. We all have our own "Red Necks" to deal with, and "Stupid" signs to pass out (Thank you Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engval!). Good Luck, and an Even Temper, eh?

If the school is in the US you will be fine. As a minority on the school grounds, the Asians band together and get along just fine. If you will be in Hong Kong, you are sure to feel like an outsider at first. Once you learn how to handle the slang terms and small tricks of fitting in there you will be fine.

Firstly i am chinese and i dont do this, because i am friends with loads of those type of people. If i was brought up in china. I would becaue I wouldnt be farmiliar with those type of people and listen to news and stories. However chinese people and brown skinned people (i see some are really close friends) If you were to share a room with chinese, try it for a coupal of days. If he/she shows that they aren't comfortable with you staying with them. Move somewhere else

Can I enter UK borders as a visitor then apply for student visa?

Can I enter UK borders as a visitor then apply for student visa?
As of now, I have a little problem. I have been accepted into an university in UK and I have already booked my flight ticket to Hong Kong for vacation then from Hong Kong to England. I am afraid that there wouldn't be enough time for my student visa to process here in Canada. So will it be possible for me to enter UK borders as a visitor then apply for student visa when I am in UK?
Immigration - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
People who enter the UK as a visitor are restricted from changing visa category inside the country. You would need to return home an then apply for a student visa.
2 :
As Truth Dealer says there is no way to change from a visitor's visa to any other visa category while in the UK. A student visa can only be granted in your country of legal residence. So you have to process it in Canada. So apply before you go to Hong Kong, travel to HK as a tourist, return to Canada to get your student visa, then travel from Canada to the UK
3 :
You cannot change status from a visitor's visa. You would have to be legally resident on the UK to apply for any visa from inside the country. Why not use the priority service which will get you a decision within 48 hours? It costs $145.60 plus tax, but is probably cheaper than changing your ticket. https://www.visainfoservices.com/Pages/Content.aspx?Tag=Services_PAGE#Priorityservice

Can I get my Chinese Z working visa from Hong Kong?

Can I get my Chinese Z working visa from Hong Kong?
I am a USA citizen living in Shanghai and I need to get my Z working visa. Can I go to Hong Kong to obtain it? Previously I was on a student visa, and I already have found a job that will provide me all the necessary documentation for a Z visa. The reason I ask is because I saw online on the embassy's website below a notice that stated that in 2008/4/13 "If you don't reside or work in Hong Kong permanently, you are required to apply Chinese visa from the Embassy or Consulate-General of Peoples' Republic of China in your resident country" http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/bgfwxx/

Most of the universities in Hong Kong teach in English. However, you may find in practice that some of the professors supplement their teaching with Chinese remarks and that local students may speak Chinese among themselves on group projects. There are growing numbers of international students at schools like HKU and HKUST. You'd better check with each institution for specific requirements.

Hong Kong or Christchurch?
Hello everybody, I am a 25 years old Italian boy. I'm a graduated student looking for a PhD position abroad. The two most likely destinations actually seem to be Hong Kong (Hong Kong University) or Christchurch (Canterbury University). I was wondering if someone who lives there or who knows these towns can give me some useful advice about people, life style, universities and other interesting aspects. Thank You Everyone! Hong Kong University is a good choice for u as its cheaper than Christchurch, food wise taste nicer and the people are more friendly than Christchurch. Christchurch is definitely far from Italy, but there are not much restriction for u as an Italian to either study in HK nor NZ. But for work, its equally hard, so make no difference for u.

Hong Kong degree value?

I have heard that foreign degrees and certificates are values all the time. Though you may have to learn some things that differ again, 99.9% is the same. CREED *** UPDATE If you would like to know more, why not try contacting a university or company that is in the country you want to work in; they should be able to tell you about what you want to know. If they can't, they should be able to tell you where to find out this information. Go on Google and search for university in the area you want, then go on thier website; then to the 'contact us' page or paty of the page, then you can contact them. Also use this for area code on the phone to help... http://www.countrycallingcodes.com/ CREED
2 :
If you are a foreigner who plans to study in Hong Kong, then chances are you can have a pretty decent job -if you have the skills for it. Hong Kong's job competition is pretty tough and priority is on the locals. International companies may be your best hopes for getting good jobs. Regarding the degree value, I can't say for certain since it depends on the company in USA, UK, or AU if they will recognize it. Some will, some won't. I think regardless of where you studied, they will look more into relevance and experience rather than the school, if you've had enough experience and skills to match the company's needs then you are qualified.
3 :
To be honest, American companies value experience over education it seems. its all a stepping stone process anyways, so usually you start entry level anyways. But your degree will be fine I believe.

It has one of the lowest crime rate in the world and there was no target for terrorist to attack Hong Kong because China has good relationship with the Middle East. It's safe, but don't take your kids to HK disney if you are an American, take them to Ocean park instead. HK disney is the smallest on earth. There is much more worth to see in HK or the surrounding area in China or Asia country, so my recommendation is not towaste time in HK dinsey

I have a Rebel and looked into this before I bought mine. The Japan warranty is NOT honored in the US. It came up because dealers (in New York especially) were importing the Japan models and passing them off as US, and people wouldn't find out until they took them in for service and denied claims. If you're worried about it breaking over there, you might be better off with a model purchased where you're going, because I'd bet the problem goes both ways, but If you're going to be back in 3 weeks and want it covered here, chances are you're going to want a US warranty. and hey... Have a GREAT trip!
2 :
U better 2 buy it Japan. As u r visitor in Japan, u will get tax exempted. And buy it from International std shops, so u will get system operating menus & manuals in English. Otherwise that r in Japanese.
3 :
It is better you buy it in USA. I was in a similar situation few months back. I was in US and wanted the Rebel XTi before I came to Shanghai. I researched the prices in Singapore, Shanghai and USA. The price in Shanghai and singapore were as high as USA and I don't have the convinience of buying the english version with english manuals. So I decided to buy in USA, which is definitely worked well for me. For starters I had the camera through out the trip. After I reached Shanghai I checked the prices and they are definitely higher than USA.

I have a 13 years old niece who has a F-1 Student Visa, she wants to go to Hong kong for vacation, but she is afraid that because her brother and sister stayed in the USA longer thant the given permission will afect her return to continue her studies in the United State. Can someone know if this really will afect her returning back to USA, even though all her documents are fine?

That is possible because if she has to re-apply for new F-1 (in case the first one expired and I-20 is still valid), the consulate will be able to see all info about her and everyone/every issue that relates to her. It happens very often.. when the consulate office finds out about your overstayed sibling, your application may be denied.

If you want to do some seriously cheap shopping, go for Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur also has a killer transport system. Then again, so do Singapore and Hong Kong, but the shopping and accomodations aren't as cheap. You can also find a lot of cheap food in Kuala Lumpur, of all sorts. Hong Kong can get very pricey, although it does have some nice night markets and good food. My friends that have bothered to visit Disney Land there said it was terrible. Bali may have been nice some years ago but it is now overcrowded, over polluted and full of traffic jams. I used to live there some years back and have been there several times since. Was recently there again and could NOT believe the horrid traffic and pollution. Much like Jakarta. Hotel and homestay prices have also gotten absolutely stupid. Kuta/Legian/Tuban/Seminyak beaches are really terrible. If you're only there for a day or 2, that's all you'll get to see. Better beaches in Lombok and Sulawesi. Another option would be to just fly to Kuala Lumpur, travel around a bit, take an aircon bus all the way down to Singapore and check that out too. Buses are really cheap and comfy with lots of choices of companies. Then fly from Singapore to Australia. I've done the Singapore/Malaysia-Malaysia/Singapore trip by bus many times and loved it. Regarding personal safety for females, I'd not recommend Bali. A few years back an Australian friend of mine was seriously assaulted trying to walk back to her hotel in Legian. The group of guys beat her black and blue. Another female friend was beaten to a pulp right in front of me buy a Balinese guy outside a club for accidentally touching his head. The club owner just stood by and watched. Nice. Not.

I would say Bali or Kuala Lumpur. Hong Kong and Singapore are going to be a lot like other major cities around the world. They say Singapore is like a beginner's Asia because people speak english, things are easy to understan there, etc. I would want to see as much of the opposite of Australia before going. Bali should give you paradise and a laid back atmosphere. Kuala Lumpur should give you a city scene but with very different cultural scenery.

Hong Kong would give you an experience of modern China, that's quite different from India. If you choose this, stay at the Kowloon YMCA. Rooms are clean, location's safe and convenient, and the price is cheap for HK. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are both multicultural, safe and nice. I just got back from them. KL is cheaper. Yet I don't advise staying in a hostel or guest house there as they're dirty. So really Singapore could be cheaper. You can do both and travel by the overnight train easily and cheaply. These cities show how Malay, Chinese and Indian peoples live together and how the old and new can be blended in Asia. Shopping and food choices are plentiful. Bali disappointed me. I found the constant, aggressive hawking irritating. Some people are lovely, but a lot get nasty once they find you won't buy something. It's actually rather expensive because prices are geared to the "rich Western tourist." If you do go here, Ubud is nice and I loved the Casa Luna cooking class. You can sign up at that restaurant on Jl Raya, perpendicular to Monkey Forest Rd. Transportation in Bali is expensive. It's hard for a tourist to get around in anything but an expensive cab. So I advise you limit yourself to just one city or two. My blog has pictures of my trips to Singapore, KL and Bali. I went to Hong Kong before I started blogging. I'd go back though.

Skip Kuala Lumpur especially if you are all girls. I was robbed in Kuala Lumpur when I toured the city all by myself, so chances of you being harassed is quite prominent. The locals don't talk about these incidents but they are surely happening in their own midst.
