Shopping in Hong Kong?
Hi everyone, I am going on a field trip to Hong Kong with my class. I went to mainland in '08 - Beijing, Shanghai, and Suzhou. Is the shopping in Hong Kong similar to mainland as far as the street markets. Pearls and fake purses were a steal, and I am hoping to get some more good deals. Are goods in HK more expensive? I should add that shopping is not my main interest for going there. I am an accounting student, so most of the trip will be visiting businesses operating in HK and sightseeing/experiencing the culture. :) Are there large pearl markets like on the mainland? Where I can negotiate prices?

Fake purse are "a steal". Possession of counterfeit merchandise is illegal. You may be arrested by Hong Kong Police, Hong Kong Customs, or the Customs authorities of your home country. Don't be a crooked monkey. Buy legitimate products.

hk is much more commercial than china. most of the "markets" have been setup for tourists. they have cracked down alot on fake stuff so it's not as easy to find as in china. most people go to hk for brand name shopping. since there is no import duty it is cheaper than most places in the world.

Fake items are few in sight but are still available, you might see more of those unbranded or less known brands on street markets. Branded / Signature items cost less than in other countries and way cheaper if on sale. October has to be the sale-month of HK i think.
