How is it to study abroad in Hong Kong?

How is it to study abroad in Hong Kong?
'm 15-year old Filipino student as of now (2008), and my dream is to be in Hong Kong someday. My father is Chinese and my mother is a Filipina, and I grew up here in Philippines. My father had just asked me if do I like to continue my studies in Hong Kong? because he sees better future for me in Hong Kong. He would make me study there if I can stay longer by myself. I'm matured and diligent student. Now, my dream is on my hands. I have the opportunity this time and I really wanted to grab it. The question is: CAN I? Even me, I can't answer. I'm afraid of being homesick and alone. What do you think are the obstacles that I may encounter. What should I do when I'm there already. How if you were I, what will you do? Can you please state your opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

Going someplace new is ALWAYS scary... I first went from the US to Europe when I was 15 and I will admit that though I came to LOVE Europe, it was a MAJOR culture shock at first... Going somewhere new, even if it is your heritage, is a MIND ALTERING EXPERIENCE. It is a spectacular thing to be exposed to cultures that are different from your own... Even if the differences are slight... Different mind sets... Different food tastes... Different music... It all effects the way you think and really expands the boundaries of your mindset to include things you may never have even thought of if you had remained in your home area. Going overseas was THE BEST THING I ever did and I am SO HAPPY I did it when I was 15-21... when my personality was still forming... Being sequestered in your home area is a VERY limiting thing... Seeing ONLY one way of living day in and day out really closes your mind to the endless possibilities that is the human experience. Will it be scary as hell? TOTALLY... But that is half the fun... 15 is young to go to a place like Hong Kong… But if you have family there or can arrange a family to stay with so that someone is looking out for you then GO FOR IT! You never know if the opportunity will present itself again and if you don’t take this one now, you may regretted it for the rest of your life… NEVER hesitate to expand your horizons… Come visit us in Chicago, IL USA… Go see the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam… The Luvre in France! The beaches of Africa! Go to as many places as you possibly can because only then will you be able to see what the world is REALLY about!!
