How different is the lifestyle in Hong Kong compared to Guangzhou?
Hi there, I'm an American Chinese, born in California and been living here all my life. I'm 22, and just graduated from college. I wanted to study abroad in China but never had an opportune time when I was in school. I am now seriously considering teaching English in China so that I can experience the place that a part of my family grew up in, and to become more worldly. At the same time, I'm seeking adventure and self discovery, not to mention a way to pay off my student loans. So I was wondering for those of you who have been to Hong Kong and Guangzhou, what kind of feel do these cities have? Are there many expatriates in both places? How is the nightlife in each? Where can I improve my cantonese speaking abilities best at? Is it much more affordable for a single apartment in Guangzhou? Any information that you can provide about living in these two cities would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hong Kong is splendid, but frighteningly expensive. You'll have a great time in Hong Kong and leave without a penney to your name. If you teach in Guangzhou then you may be paid less, but can save lots more.

Hong Kong and Guangzhou are poles apart... Hong Kong is way more costly... also less opportunities for English teachers... coz its costly will not suit your purpose even if you get a job... coz you want to save money... to repay your loan...
