I am a 23-year-old closeted gay man. Should I study in Australia or stay in Hong Kong?
I am a 23-year-old closeted gay man. I am orginally from Hong Kong. I have been an accounting student in an Australian university for 2 years. Looking back these 2 years, I have been struggling with my own sexuality and my accounting course. It has been a torture for me. I've found I am not an accounting material. Now, my university ask me to discontinue my course and I go back to Hong Kong. I wanna do a new degree course majoring in Italian and Spanish in Australia.(I've self-studied both language for 3 years and really enjoy the experience. Also I've collected Italian and Spanish music for 2 years.Love it) My parents say they will support me whether I do it in Australia or HK.However, I've got a feeling that they prefer me to do it in HK.But they don't mind if I do it in Australia. However, my parents are homophobic. After being in denial for 2 year, I've come out to all my Australian friends who are all gay-friendly. But not my parents yet since I'm afraid they'll cut off my sponsor I compared degree courses in Australia and Hong Kong, I prefer the Australian one. I have a lot more friends in Australia. I have no friends here in Hong Kong , except living with homophobic mum and dad. In order to have a good social life for a gay man, should I stay in HK or go to Australia ?

Go to Australia! Guys there'll rip the door off your closet and the clothes off your body within 24 hrs. You'll be a much happier gay man when you are out!

It sounds that you are really happy in Australia so stay there. If you are openly gay to your friends do your parents really need to be told? There is no rush to tell them.

The decision on where to stud really depends on you. You should go where you really want to go, not because others are forcing you to do so. Just be yourself and you will discover a lot more. Good luck.

Sounds like you are unhappy in Hong Kong, but you will have a lot more fun in Australia. Go to Australia!

You sound like you are most comfortable in australia, which is why you should probably go there. It seems you'd have a better life style for yourself, so if I were you, I'd choose Australia. But you have to remember; you're going to have to open up to your parents eventually. They're going to wonder why you're never bringing a woman home. Good luck. (:
