How to per pare for the SAT Verbal test? And do you think that the SAT maths is a bit too easy?
Hi. I will be taking the SAT in three years time and I just have a glance at what the paper is like. I scored nearly full mark in the Maths part but the Verbal part is a total fiasco. I just wonder whether regular English classes at schools will be enough for taking the test or there are some special perperation work that must be done. Also I just don't understand why the Maths part is so simple. (I remember that there is a question of asking you to find the area of a triangle, with the base and height given!) I am not trying to exaggerate but any high school student in Hong Kong can peobably score full mark in the test. I'm not a native learner of English and does not live in an English speaking city.

the verbal should be completed easily with a basic background in english grammar, reading, and writing. ( i know. i've taken them before.) if you are a good writer/proofreader, then there should be no problem as you should know the basic rules about sentence structure, agreement, and the like.

The Math section is remarkably easy. ETS does that on many of its tests, including the GRE. I think it's because so many students find math all but impossible. For me, the verbal section was not hard. The biggest thing to know is VOCABULARY. There are many books out there with lists called "The Hit Parade" which include some of ETS's favorite words to include. These books also offer strategies for answering the various types of questions in the verbal sections. I recommend an SAT Prep book by The Princeton Review. I used their GRE Prep book and aced the test. Good luck!

My recommendation for success on the verbal SAT, especially since you have three years to prepare, is to READ, READ, READ!!! And when you are done, READ some more. You will increase your vocabulary that way and most likely will become a better writer as well. Regular High school English classes ought to be all you need; however, you need to READ. Get that message PLEASE!!!
