could you please check the personal statement for me?
I'm a high school student, applying for Hongkong University. Since English is not my native language. I might make grammar mistakes or write unideomatically. It acquires me to write a personal statement to tell the reasons to choose the school, what subject I'm going to choose and my prospects for my future and so on. so I would be appreciated if you take some time to give some advice on my statement: I chose the University of Hong Kong for the following reasons: 1、it ranks high among internationally schools. Its use of English teaching and international practice broaden my horizons. It also has a number of university staff most of which are internationally renowned scholars who will provide us a high level of teaching. 2、its student-centred group-learning can fully mobilize our creativity. 3、Hong Kong is an international metropolis, which has a good employment environment. 4、China is getting more and more open. As a result, it will need more international talents. I would prefer Business as my major, because it is one of the subjects that enjoys greatest reputation. Talking about the prospects for the future, I intend to build up firm foundation in the college at the same time I broaden my horizons in Hong Kong. It would be best if I could get the opportunity to go abroad in exchange student programs. At the same time I wish to have interdisciplinary learning opportunities, so that I can become an all-rounder as well as expertise of different areas, and be able toserve the society well. In short, I will continue to struggle hard and be positive.

Wow, people traveling abroad to China applying for school. WTF. Unfortunate but a modern reality. Seems like you have got the right idea though. I think you will get in just fine. Also, your english is quite good. Better even than many Americans, unfortunately.

I am not an English Teacher ... but ... here is my opinion: Your reason # 1 ... It ranks high among international (drop the ly) schools. Again, reason # 1 ... scholars who will provide us (drop the us) a high level of teaching. Your reason #2 ... Its student-centred (I believe, it should be spelled centered, but I am not certain). Were you limited to just four reasons? 4. -added comma to separate adjectives -centred is fine, it's the British spelling -removed the hyphen from group-learning. -removed 'our' 5. enlivened the sentence by removing the being verb 'is' 6. replaced 'getting more and more open' with a stronger verb. -choose the pronoun you prefer. -also, you had the word 'more' in both sentences, which was redundant. PART 2: I think I knew what you were aiming for. If anything sounds 'off' to you, feel free to disregard it. I won't list the corrections except to say that 'struggle' has negative implications so I replaced it with diligent. No they are not very famous Jürgen Vogel quite famous. Bestanden is a verb the participle of Bestehen in this case to pass an exam Urlaub bald is on holiday soon Kundendienst is the service department eg if you have a complaint

Ok, I'm a high school student. A school representative election is underway, one of the nominees is a Mandarin chinese boy (a nice guy really), but this person that I know who is cantonese (hongkong). He's somewhat really upset, it's like he hates china(mainland). He says all these things about china is communists and if the madarin boy wins the election it would be like chairman Mao back in WWII in china. And all these things about he likes england and freedom blah blah and how Mainland China are bunch of sh*t. This is really start to annoy me now as I'm a mainland chinese, I don't really care much about all this, but any suggestions to deal with this??? *Plus this hong kong cantonese person runs around school, posting things on facebook saying bad things about china and stuff.....I'm not saying Im up set, but it's really bugging me out.

Mandarin is a language. There is no such thing as a Mandarin boy. Mandarin speaking boy, maybe. Similarly, Cantonese can refer to the language or to the people from Guangzhou. A Cantonese Hong Kong person makes no sense. Again, you can say a Cantonese speaking person from HK.

Pls advise me of the cheapest accomodation in HongKong for 3D/2N on Sept 3-5?
This is the first time i'll travel abroad and alone..pls help me find the cheapest posible place to stay in HK island and also near the train station that would bring me to Disneyland. Im planning to go there also and hope to get there as easy, fast and as affordable as possible. I will really appreciate if u would help me. Im a working student and this trip is a gift for myself. By the way I got the tickets from Cebu Pacific P1 fare thats why...:) Thanks a lot for ur help.

Do you have to stay on HK island? With the subway system the whole area is easily gotten to. Anne Black Guest House (YMCA) is available for USD 48 per night for the dates you are to be there. Anything else ON HK island would be USD10-20 more per night. For that difference and maybe a 10 minute subway ride would be worth the difference. It's right near KCR train station if you wanted to go to Shenzhen too. It is a 10 minute walk to the Subway station. Yes I know exactly I stayed at Wharney Guang Dong Hotel 6 months ago it's cheap and very very clean about 700 HK$ a night. And another hotel is BP international about 650 HK$ but price may vary during peak seasons. If you want to go to Disneyland the cheapest way is to take MRT just ask people around once you at MRT station most of Hong Kong people speak little english and would love to help you out.

you don't need visa for Hong Kong if your going to HongKong. it's very safe there now that the British are no longer sucking up the money

Hong Kong is an interesting place and whether or not you need a visa for a visit depends on your citizenship (which country's passport you hold). Most "western" countries can visit HK without a visa, however citizens of some countries do require a visa even for a short visit (and you need to apply beforehand).
