Transportation in Hong Kong?
I am an exchange student in Hong Kong, new to the area. My new host family is probably in Discovery Bay, Lantau Island. My school is in Stanley (south HK island.) If someone who is familiar with the HK transportation system could help answer me, thank you so much. It is tough being in a new country all alone. How would I get to school? What's the fastest way? I already know that they are far from each other.. >_< Thanks!

The fastest way is to take D Bay's ferry to Central and from there, take the No. 6 bus from the bus terminal which will take you all the way to Stanley. D Bay's ferry offers a monthly pass which is cheaper than buying the fare twice daily. If you can catch both the ferry and the bus in time, it should take you around an hour to get to your school. The No 6 bus ride has one of the best views in HK, riding pass the most luxurious houses and apartments including the residences of the US Consul-General in HK and the richest Chinese on earth, Mr Li Ka Shing. D Bay is a very unique residential area spread across a S W portion of the Lantau Island, the biggest island of the 200+ islands in HK. D Bay is owned by a private developer who literally build up the entire area from barren. It has its own reservoir, golf course, club house and shopping centre, restaurants and a private beach. Any ideas for an extra-curricular acitivity class? They are primary students in Hong Kong?
Any ideas for an extra-curricular acitivity class? They are primary students in Hong Kong?
We are to meet on every friday for 1.5 hours to do some activities in English. I can choose the level grades that I would like to recruit for the class. The main problem is that the students' english level is too poor to understand complicated instructions in English. Also they are not suitable to do any exciting activities as they are too hyper and too hard to control.... please help..

Well, maybe you can try to talk to them slowly and use more sign/ body language. Hong Kong students should be rather friendly, I believe. Since it is pretty hard for them to get to school and the school fees are rather expensive, they will surely try to be good. Maybe you can use Mahjong or something like that that has something to do in their daily lives for them to learn the shapes and numbers of that particular tile. You can also make English classes more interesting with the help off softwares. You can too let them listen to nice English songs and explain it to them slowly. This applies to English movies too. Just make sure the movies funny. Be confident and don't lose hope.

Can I use a US-bought Xbox 360 in Hong Kong perfectly fine?
I am a college student in the US, but I go back to Hong Kong every few months. Would there be any issues in using my Xbox 360 in both of these two countries, provided I buy all the games from the US?

Apart from the power plug and possibly the online play, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Although i'm not sure whether the Hong Kong Tv's read on a different frequency. PAL, PAL-B/G, NTSC etc. to the US tv's. That may or may not affect the xbox though

How can I apply for Hong kong visa in the US?
I'm a Vietnamese International Student in the US, and I'd like to travel to hong kong this summer. do i need to travel back to Vietnam to apply for Hong kong visa? or can apply for it in the US? If it can, where and how to do it? Thanks a lot!

Since 1997 you have to apply to the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Washington DC. They probably have consulates in other big cities in the US, like Chicago, Los Angeles or New York. You can check for this information on the internet.

Contact the Chinese Consulate right here in the United States. There one right here in Los Angeles, CA . They are located on Shatto Place. I'm sure that there are many others throughout the US. English speaking companies in Hong Kong?
I am looking for a job in Hong Kong. I am a college student and I am looking for a part-time or a full time job in Hong Kong that's only English speaking. My Chinese skill is not that good so I want to work at a company that only requires employees to know English. Does anybody know any jobs or companies that only speaks English? Thanks in advance!

I am also like you, Chinese but cannot read/write much Chinese. It took me quite a few months of sending out many CVs each day and only getting a few replies. Most of the interviews i had been invited requires Chinese typing. Anyway... in Hong Kong there are so many large companies that are English based and don't need much Chinese, perhaps just speaking/listening. My suggestion is to look at these two job searching websites that are reliable and mainly for English speaking people. Spend sometime on it and play around with it. I am sure it won't be that hard. www.jobsdb.com/hongkong www.classifiedpost.com Although Classified Post aren't going to be much for fresh grads as its more for senior positions. Good luck!
